Learning Outcome #2

I understand this learning outcome as focusing on becoming proficient in written communication within a professional setting. It involves being able to express ideas clearly, effectively, and with intention through different mediums. It also means understanding how to tailor your writing to different audiences and sticking to proper grammar and style guidelines.

To demonstrate my proficiency in this learning outcome, I chose to highlight two examples – my profile piece from Introduction to Journalism and another from my Management of Nonprofit Organizations class. My reasoning for choosing this piece is because it demonstrates my ability to compose professional work within the field. It involves conducting interviews, incorporating quotes, and adhering to journalism standards in terms of style. I have included a segment from this profile piece that best highlights these key qualities, showing I know how to create a professional document.

Journalism – Profile Piece

The next piece I chose to highlight to demonstrate LO #2 is a segment from my midterm in Management of Nonprofit Organizations. In this project we were faced with the task of “creating” a nonprofit organization in Maine, and constructing a full application package. This included creating a needs statement, vision statement, strategic plan, including mock legal documents, and creation of smart goals among other necessary things. Additionally, we were required to include a section describing why each element was important to the application package, which demonstrates my knowledge. See segment below that includes a few elements of the larger whole.
