Learning Outcome #3
This learning outcome means that students should be able to use communication technology like software and tools well and responsibly in a professional environment. Being skilled using different applications effectively, understanding how to use communication technology ethically, and recognizing the limitations that it has.
Being fully transparent here, I believe this was the learning outcome that I feel was least touched on during my education here. Granted, I have one more year and I hope to meet this learning outcome better in some of the classes I will take. My knowledge of being able to use communication technology (softwares, tools), was met, but using communication technology ethically and recognizing its limitations not so much. This being said, I found that the Public Relations in the Digital Age course was most effective in teaching me this. We explored the ethical dimensions of using communication technology, however, we weren’t given the chance to really put these principles into practice. I included a segment from a short in-class assignment where we completed some research on ethics, and included some of our own ideas. If I had to pick something, this is the best demonstration of this knowledge.
