Description: The focus of this project was to dig deeper into your chosen major and explore what make it “enriched.” These enriched ideals come from Boyer, who believes a major is enriched when it encompasses a historical context, teaches the social and economic implications, and the importance of morals and ethics. To find where these fit in, I looked through the mission statement and learning outcomes of my major, as well as digging deeper to look at course descriptions of required courses. The most insightful information I obtained was through an interview I had with communications professor, Jesse Miller. After this project I have learned and concluded that the communications major at UNE is in fact enriched. This information is important for me to have learned, because I can see how I will apply to my career. What you say matters, communications can have many consequences in a moral and ethical sense, especially in a reporting job. Social and economic ideals come into play with the gender wage gap and how women tend not to advocate for themselves in this sense. Lastly, the historical implications are important to study because if you understand the history of communications, and the timeline, you will understand where you stand in time and space.
