Learning Outcome #4
This learning outcome focuses on using digital media effectively for communication in professional settings. Achieving it involves understanding how to create effective media content with relevant software for communication purposes, have an understanding of how media stories are structured, and demonstrating effective collaboration.
To demonstrate my knowledge of Learning Outcome #4, I want to draw in two separate examples. The first example coming from my Graphic Design class, which will highlight the use of digital media for communication in a professional setting. The following project was part of our semester’s final assignment, during which we utilized the website building platform “Squarespace” to develop a professional website. This project aimed to showcase our proficiency in creating functional websites complete with links, navigation tabs, and other essential elements.

The second example is from Digital Video Production, and it demonstrates my knowledge of media story structures and the use of software. In this course we mainly utilized the software “FinalCutPro.” We learned how to use it, and how to structure media stories by cutting together pieces of out of order scenes in order to make it make sense. One of the edits that left a lasting impression on me involved assembling a scene from the popular series “GunSmoke,” but unfortunately I don’t have that saved on my computer. Instead, I want to show another simple edit from this course. We were given about 5-8 different scenes, and were required to use FinalCutPro to piece them together in order to create story structure that made sense.
